  The cited articles in your reference list can help you to identify related information published before the main information source. Other information sources may cite your information source in their reference list. These are citing references, published after your original source.

When you have found a useful information source, like a book or journal article, you can use this source to find other relevant sources for your research.

One option is to browse the references listed in your original source (known as ‘Cited References’) to identify related information sources that were published before your source.

Another option is to search for other information sources that have cited your original information source and were published after your original source. We call these ‘Citing References’.
